Hutton Mitchell Suicide, Jumped to Death on I-49 in Benton County Rogers AR | Obituary

The city of Rogers is mourning the tragic death of Hutton Mitchell, a 19-year-old high school football standout, who died Friday evening after jumping from an overpass onto Interstate 49.

According to the Arkansas State Police, the incident occurred around 6:25 p.m. near Exit 82. Mitchell leapt from the Belleview Road overpass, landing on the roof of a southbound vehicle. He then rolled onto the pavement and was struck by another vehicle in the center lane. No other injuries were reported.

Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to the Benton County Coroner’s Office. Authorities confirmed the case remains under investigation, but preliminary information suggests the death was a suspected suicide.

Hutton Mitchell was a 5’8” running back in the Rogers High School Class of 2025, known for his speed and agility on the football field. He had earned respect from coaches, teammates, and classmates alike for his passion and drive.

But behind the athletic accolades, Mitchell appeared to be facing personal struggles. Records show that on March 7, 2025, Mitchell was booked in Benton County Jail. According to public arrest information, he was charged with Failure to Appear in relation to Warrant F202500856 issued in Benton County. No further details regarding the underlying case have been released publicly.

The news of Mitchell’s death has shaken Rogers and the surrounding community. On social media, tributes poured in from friends and strangers alike. One post from Shannon von Ree read, “Goodness! Also pray for the poor soul that hit him! How traumatic!!! 😭” Another user, Kat Davison, added, “Two separate cars. He fell on the roof of one car, then got hit by another.”

Though the circumstances of his final days remain unclear, Mitchell’s impact on those around him was unmistakable. Many are remembering him for his kindness, athleticism, and potential—not the events that led to Friday’s tragedy.

As the investigation continues, the Rogers School District is expected to provide grief counseling and mental health support for students and staff. The incident serves as a painful reminder of the silent battles many young people face.
